Why do people love to travel? This is such a poignant question in today’s society. For some people, travel is what happens once a year when they are away from work on annual leave. For some people, it is a desire to embark on an adventure such as a gap year once they finish high school, teaching English in a remote part of Africa, or going on a world cruise. For some people, travel is their retirement plan.
This is not the case for me.
Travel is my passion.
When I was 17 years old, I was bitten by the travel bug and have since been stuck with the infection (in a good way). I finished high school and, not being ready to leave for University, I decided to spend a year working in England and travelling around Europe. It was during this year that I realised the sweet thrill you get, stepping off a plane in a new country, ready to experience a whole new set of firsts.
I hope you enjoy this particular section of my blog, in which I will share with you some of my most cherished memories and experiences. It has been 5 years since I embarked on that life-changing year in Europe and I can honestly say that, since then, I have left my heart in so many places.
