‘Love Another Mother’ This Mother’s Day

Why hello there!

I know what you’re thinking – it’s been a long time!  A lot has been happening over the last month – I moved back to Dunedin and settled into postgraduate study – but I am beyond excited to reconnect with you all and let you in on what’s been happening in my life lately.

The big question on my mind for the last few weeks has been this: What are you doing for your mother this Mother’s Day?  I know that for some people the answer to this is always simple: a nice card, a box of chocolate and maybe some flowers.  But the reality is that for some mothers out there this is not going to be the case.  Some families just do not have the means to celebrate their mother or show her just how much they appreciate her. Types Of People At The Airport

For those of you who read my previous blog post, you’ll already know that I have returned to Dunedin for my University year.  This involved one hell of a journey, driving from Hamilton to Auckland, flying Auckland to Christchurch and finally onto Dunedin.

As much as I love travel – and I love travel – this journey included a ten hour wait at Christchurch airport.  Admittedly this isn’t exactly the ideal scenario when travelling; it is always preferable to fly direct or at least have minimal time in transit.  However, as well as a keen lover of travel, I also happen to enjoy indulging in a bit of good ol-fashioned people watching.

Ten hours is a long time to sit at the same booth, in the same departure lounge, with ever-changing crowds of people walking past. So this week I decided to cram all ten hours of people watching into one video: Types Of People At The Airport. Continue reading

What ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Taught Me About Love

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that yesterday was Valentine’s Day.

This time last year, the movie version of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ was released.  Do you remember the story?  It involves a young college graduate named Anastasia Steele who begins dating the successful businessman Christian Grey, only to discover that he is a sexual sadist who wants to lure her over to the dark side of his deepest desires.

But what you may not know is that this story of fetishism has been read by women the world over, and apparently they find it to be very erotic and emotionally fulfilling.  All I can conclude from that is that this story must be an encyclopaedia full of information about love.

So, in celebration of that very fact, I decided to make a video called “What 50 Shades Of Grey Taught Me About Love”.  Check it out! Continue reading

Social Rules: To Drink Or Not To Drink

Have you ever hosted a party or social gathering at your house?  Well – at 22 years of age – I can safely say that I have hosted my fair share.

Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely love having people around at my house.  But the responsibility of hosting people at your house brings with it socially awkward situations.

This week on my YouTube channel, I decided to tackle the society’s rules around what to do with beverages, both alcoholic and non, that are left over at your house following a social gathering.  It would mean the world to me if you would check it out!

My First Video

Spoiler Alert: MY FIRST VIDEO IS ONLINE!

Okay – I admit it! To some people this probably isn’t the most exciting ‘Spoiler Alert’ they could have read.  But in MY mind, uploading my first video was a big deal.

It has been a long time coming, and I am quietly stoked with the end result.

To be honest, it was nerve-wracking pushing the upload button in my YouTube channel.  The button sits at the top right hand corner of the screen and, although it appears to be harmless and non-threatening, it takes a strong will and a moment of insanity to actually push it.

What is really funny about it though?! The act of actually pushing the button is entirely anti-climatic.  Why? Because it takes about 10minutes just to upload a 3minute video.  So I sat on my bedroom floor, dripping in nervous sweat, for 10 whole minutes while the upload bar slowly but surely made it’s way to 100%.  By the time it had actually finished, I’d kind of forgotten what I was doing.

Once it was online though, I got the most incredible feeling – the kind of feeling you can only get when you finally do something that you’ve been meaning to do for a long, long time.  Admittedly I have only had a handful of views, and there is a strong possibility that nobody has actually clicked that my channel exists… But that’s not the point.  The point is that I set a goal, worked towards it and am proud to say I have a video.

So. Here it is:

It would mean the world to me (I mean that literally and figuratively) if you would pop on over and check out my video.  Better yet, why not subscribe and make it a regular thing?! I would love to have you join me on this YouTube adventure.  The first day of a live video has given me the biggest rush, so I can’t wait to see what the future has to hold!

Don’t forget to start your week off with some ‘Laughs With Lizzie’

A little bit of cheese never hurt anybody.
