Chocolate Mug Cake

If you know me well, you will know that I have a weakness for anything chocolate.  So tonight, after I had finished dinner and realised that I wasn’t entirely satisfied, I decided to make a Chocolate Mug Cake.

You may ask: What is a Mug Cake? The concept is simple – it is a cake baked in a mug.

The recipe that I am sharing with you is perfect for those of us who are after a quick and easy treat.  It uses several ingredients that are commonly found in most kitchens, and requires only a few minutes of preparation.  It will compliment a lazy evening in with a book perfectly!  It is also the perfect dessert to share with friends and family due to simplicity and ease of creating.

A selection of Chocolate Mug Cake ingredients

1/4 cup standard flour

2 tbsp cocoa

1/4 tsp baking powder

3 tbsps brown sugar

1 tbsp granulated sugar

1/4 cup milk

2 tbspns vegetable oil

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Place the flour, cocoa, baking powder, brown sugar and granulated sugar into a small mixing bowl.  Mix these ingredients together until they are consistently well spread.
  2. Add the milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract to the mixture.  Whisk these ingredients in until the ingredients are consistently well spread.
  3. Place the entire baking mix into a microwave-proof mug.   Place the mug into a microwave and bake for 60 seconds
  4. Serve!  This can be best served warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

For those who would like to indulge in additional chocolate goodness, fold some chocolate chips into the mixture before it is placed into the microwave.

This is a recipe that I have been using for years, and I hope some of you use it too!  Let me know how it goes in the comments below!  There are also many other variations on the Mug Cake, so stay tuned for some more recipes!

Until next time,
